About The Project
This is a group exhibition that serves to demonstrate solidarity among artists who identify with being a Nasty Woman in the face of threats to roll back women’s rights, individual rights, and abortion rights. It also serves as a fundraiser to support organizations defending these rights and to be a platform for organization before the Trump Presidential Inauguration in January.
Started by Roxanne Jackson and Jessamyn Fiore with a facebook post that read:
“Hello female artists/curators! Lets organize a NASTY
WOMEN group show!!! Who's interested??? “
The massive response has taken this call to arms into building an ever-expanding network of Nasty Women Artists & Art Organizers that will culminate in multiple exhibitions. Please visit Other Nasty Venues for more details on organizing an exhibition in your city.
THIS EXHIBITION IS A FUNDRAISER
The works in this exhibition will be available for sale – 100% of the sale will go to Planned Parenthood (other venues can choose to support other organizations).

BROOKLYN MUSEUM 2021 STAFF ART EXHIBITION
Artist Statement
Since the ash of 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq, I have worked in white to embody the haze of war and its environmental destruction.
During the pandemic as the world screeched to a halt and the skies cleared of planes, I saw the air clear, and color seeped back into my painting. The world sank back into my studio, which I decluttered and inventoried. I told my students how to create a sacred space for their work “out of place”, and did the same for myself. I dug out old tubes of color and worked on the edges of a new time. The muted but glowing color invokes the ghosts fluttering through the panorama of the interior, the ‘white darkness’ of the trance state, and the sparkles of eternity
Bubbles rise from the swamp to form clouds of gases from which comes an imagined world. In that space my work will continue to explore the ambiguous morphology between abstraction and a fractured representation.
Curators Statement
This exhibition celebrates the diverse talents of nearly fifty colleagues from across the Museum. After more than eighteen months of collaborating virtually and in person, in solitude and in solidarity, a community of colleagues has come together to present their work with renewed commitment to the vision of the Museum as a space where great art and courageous conversations are catalysts for a more connected, civic, and empathetic world.
The Staff Art Exhibition will take place in the Education Gallery on the 1st floor starting October 28, 2021.
The exhibition is on view through January 2, 2022
